Description
First Life Dwarf Dark Hunter. Realistically, by the time you reach level 20 you will have earned at least (1) +2 stat tome from favor, but I left all tomes off.
This build uses the Horizon Walker enhancement tree, but if you dont have that you can use harper agent for the INT trance instead, or completely forgo a trance.
We use tempest for the primary tree, which gives us a +1 competence bonus to crit multiplier. I always found I was too tight on AP to take a +1 crit multiplier AND the DEX trance from horizon walker, but with the recent changes to Dwarf having a crit multiplier in their racial tree for warhammers (or dwarven axes/Heavy Picks), I figured this could be a fun alternative.
The alternative is to take the 18 AP in dwarf, and 5 AP in dark hunter to put 24 AP in Deepwood stalker for 3 ranks in killer, and 1 in the core 4 for the crit multiplier. Going dwarf instead locks you into warhammers (or dwarven waraxes, but hammers have a better crit profile with knights training and are more plentiful), but also offers a +5% quality HP bonus (the alternative is trying to get that from falconry, which isn't freely available to new players, and we are too tight on AP anyways).

Gear
For Heroic leveling, you don't have evasion, so use medium armor (medium is better than heavy due to the higher max dex bonus which also caps your max dodge. Heavy can be better for some fighter builds that use heavy armor training feats, but for alomst every other build you either want robes/outfits for monks, Light armor for evasion builds, or medium armor if not using evasion.
Once you are in epic levels (specifically level 26) you gain evasion from the shadowdancer epic destiny. At that point you can swap to light armor to benefit from your high DEX and Reflex saves with evasion.
For weapons you want dual warhammers (Base 20/x3) but with Knights training, IC: B, and the +1 competence bonus to critical threat and multiplier, you are looking at 16-20/x4. For heroic leveling, two Nightforge hammers will serve you well (ML:8, but once you hit level 9 they will be 18-20/x5 due to knights training and their inherent +1 crit multiplier) You can get Nightforge weapons by turning in 10 ore in the quest 'a Relic of a Sovreign Past' there are 15 ores scattered in teh quest, so it will take 2 runs. They are BTC.
For epic levelling, Drow Warhammer of the Weapon Master is the best hammer once you hit level 21 for its built in 18-20/x3 crit profile, which with knights training, IC:B, and competence bonus to critical mutliplier and threat range becomes 14-20/x4. Your next weapon upgrade will likely be end game when you want some raid weapons that will offer legendary ash/dust or other debuffs, but as a first life character you have plenty of other things to work on if you don't want to grind raids yet (though they are FANTASTIC for finding great gear and TOMES which many players will happily pass to you for free).
Other Notes
Build also works as a Duergar. Additional universal AP and/or Racial AP tomes, and/or racial past lives free up for AP to go deeper into other trees. This is meant to give a rough idea of a functional first life, new player friendly build, and I will include other new player friendly builds soon.
